DRESS CODE POLICY
Members and their guests are expected, with consideration for other Members, to dress appropriately for the Club’s surroundings, time of day and occasion. We encourage you to dress smartly, with a degree of formality, to reflect the elegance and rich tradition of VAN SOUND CLUB GROUP.
For further guidance on the dress codes of the respective venues, please refer to the guidelines below. The dress code for Club events will be published in advance should there be any deviation from to the prevailing dress code.
- Red Room and Red Room Bar
- Gentlemen are required to always wear a formal jacket and tie in the Red Room and Red Room Bar.
- Gentlemen are requested to wear a front-buttoned tucked-in collared long-sleeve shirt. Polo shirts are not permitted.
- Tailored long dress trousers and chinos are acceptable. No denim is permitted.
- Long- or short-sleeved pullovers are acceptable, provided they are worn over a collared shirt.
- Dress shoes are required for gentlemen and equivalent elegant shoes for ladies. No white-soled shoes are allowed.
- National dress/national costume of any region, regardless of gender, continues to be accepted as appropriate attire in the Club premises (all venues). An example of national dress is the Chinese cheongsam for ladies and Zhongshan (tunic) suit for males.
The following clothing items are not accepted in these areas:
- Jackson Room
- Gentlemen are required to wear a formal jacket or blazer in the Jackson Room except for lunch during Summer Rules (May – September).
- Gentlemen are requested to wear a front-buttoned tucked-in collared long-sleeve shirt. Polo shirts are not permitted.
- Tailored long dress trousers and chinos are acceptable. No denim is permitted.
- Long- or short-sleeved pullovers are acceptable, provided they are worn over a collared shirt.
- Dress shoes are required for gentlemen and equivalent elegant shoes for ladies. No white-soled shoes are allowed.
- National dress/national costume of any region, regardless of gender, continues to be accepted as appropriate attire in the Club premises (all venues). An example of national dress is the Chinese cheongsam for ladies and Zhongshan (tunic) suit for males.
The following clothing items are not accepted in this area:
- Members Bar
- Gentlemen are required to wear a formal jacket or blazer in the Members Bar for lunch only except during Summer Rules (May – September).
- Gentlemen are requested to wear a front-buttoned tucked-in collared long-sleeved shirt (or short-sleeved dress shirt during Summer Rules). Polo shirts are not permitted.
- Tailored long dress trousers, chinos and non-blue denim are acceptable.
- Long- or short-sleeved pullovers are acceptable, provided they are worn over a collared shirt.
- Dress shoes are required for gentlemen and equivalent elegant shoes for ladies. White-soled shoes are allowed but no sneakers of any type.
- National dress/national costume of any region, regardless of gender, continues to be accepted as appropriate attire in the Club premises (all venues). An example of national dress is the Chinese cheongsam for ladies and Zhongshan (tunic) suit for males.
The following clothing items are not accepted in this area:
- Garden Lounge, Club Bar, Banqueting Venues and Common Areas
- Gentlemen are requested to wear a front-buttoned tucked-in collared long- or short-sleeved shirt, including a polo shirt. Turtleneck tops are permitted in winter months.
- Long trousers are required. Chinos and non-blue denim are acceptable.
- Long- or short-sleeved pullovers are acceptable, provided they are worn over a collared shirt.
- Espadrilles and appropriate sports shoes are also permitted.
- National dress/national costume of any region, regardless of gender, continues to be accepted as appropriate attire in the Club premises (all venues). An example of national dress is the Chinese cheongsam for ladies and Zhongshan (tunic) suit for males.
The following clothing items are not accepted in these areas:
- Bowling Alley Bar and The Café
- Unripped denim is permitted.
- Collarless shirts, sweatshirts, polo shirts, shorts and sweatpants are permitted; however, no singlets or sleeveless tops for gentlemen.
- Trainers, sneakers and sports shoes are permitted. For ladies, open sandals, backless shoes and espadrilles are also acceptable.
- National dress/national costume of any region, regardless of gender, continues to be accepted as appropriate attire in the Club premises (all venues). An example of national dress is the Chinese cheongsam for ladies and Zhongshan (tunic) suit for males.
The following clothing items are not accepted in these areas:
SUMMARY
Ladies should wear an equivalent attire. Certain casual footwear is not appropriate to be worn in the Club at any time, including flip-flops, work boots, hiking boots, rain boots and similar footwear.
Summer Rules are generally applied from the beginning of May to the end of September, during which time jackets are not required in the Jackson Room and in the Members Bar for lunch. Short-sleeved dress shirts are allowed in the Members Bar, but polo shirts are not permitted.
Ladies may wear elegant headwear. All other headwear, unless for medical or religious reasons, is not permitted in the Club.
Members’ adherence to the spirit of the dress code appropriate to the venue they plan to visit is much appreciated. It is a Member’s responsibility to ensure that their guests abide by these dress-code rules.
Dress-code rules apply to all guests over 12 years old.
DRESS-CODE WAIVER
For Members and guests who require a dress-code waiver due to health or religious reasons, please approach the Membership Office at least three business days prior to your visit for necessary approval and arrangements.
- Electronic Devices Policy

Key features of the revised policy include that:
1) All devices absolutely must be kept on silent at all times and under no circumstances may these devices be used to receive, play or communicate audibly (the existing designated booths on Level 1 and 3 remain for Members’ necessary telephone communications.)
2) Photography of any kind (food, staff, other Members or guests, etc.) is firmly forbidden.
3) The use of any electronic devices in the Red Room or Jackson Room is strictly prohibited.
4) It is Members’ responsibility to ensure that their guests abide by our electronic device policy rules as well.

No Member or any other person, unless on Club business, shall bring a briefcase or business papers into any Club room except a private dining room or the Card Room. Subject to such exceptions, all such items shall be left at the Reception.

No person shall take photographs in the Club except in private functions.
